We are proud to announce a one-night-only rare opportunity to see a 35MM presentation, exclusive to Dendy in Canberra, of acclaimed filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos’ new surreal comedy, KINDS OF KINDNESS to celebrate the launch of our new curated program of iconic cinema classics in 35MM - CELLULOID DREAMS.  

Hear from our guest speaker Henry Fitzgerald, 20 year+ member of ANU Film Group, and our expert projectionist as they introduce Dendy Canberra’s first celluloid screening on our lovingly restored 35MM projector. Starring Academy Award winner Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, and Willem Dafoe, this absurdist dark comedy comprising three distinct stories showcases Lanthimos' unmistakable gift for twisted tales that will linger in your brain for days on end.

What is 35MM?
Experiencing film on 35MM is akin to stepping into a time machine, transporting you to an era when cinema and film projection was crafted with meticulous care and artistry. Each frame of 35MM breathes with life, the colours more vibrant and the shadows more profound, contributing to a sensory connection that pulls you deeper into the movie, while the textured physical film and the mechanical projector evoke the history of cinema, making 35MM screenings a unique way to experience movies as they were originally intended by the filmmakers.

KINDS OF KINDNESS is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.
